‘The Revolutionists’ Rolls Into Black Box

The first production of The Black Box Theatre 2022 season is Lauren Gunderson’s “The Revolutionists.”

Described as “Four beautiful, badass women lose their heads in this irreverent, girl-powered comedy set during the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror. Playwright Olympe de Gouges, assassin Charlotte Corday, former queen (and fan of ribbons) Marie Antoinette, and Haitian rebel Marianne Angelle hang out, murder Marat, and try to beat back the extremist insanity in 1793 Paris. This grand and dream-tweaked comedy is about violence and legacy, art and activism, feminism and terrorism, compatriots and chosen sisters, and how we actually go about changing the world. It’s a true story. Or total fiction. Or a play about a play. Or a raucous resurrection…that ends in a song and a scaffold. Rated R for language.

'The Revolutionists' Begins Tomorrow At Moline's Black Box Theatre

Directed by Patti Flaherty the play stars Kayla Jo Pulliam Mendoza as Olympe De Gouge, Alice Jane as Charlotte Corday, Cynthia Lomas as Marianne Angelle and Lora Adams as Marie Antoinette.  Backstage crew is LuAnne Sisk. Set construction and crew are Michael Kopriva, Tom Vaccaro, Trinity Filut and Julien Blaine. Costumes by Lora Adams. Lights by David Miller.

The show runs March 3 to 12. Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 pm and Sunday at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $13 on Thursday and $16 all other performances and are available at theblackboxtheatre.com.

See ‘The Play’ And Bring A Friend!

See “the funniest show in town” at Circa ‘21 Dinner Playhouse for less now through March 11!

Welcome to opening night of community theatre troupe, Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society’s newest production of an Agatha Christie-like 1920s murder mystery, “The Murder at Haversham Manor” — where things are quickly going from bad to utterly disastrous! The set, the props, the lighting and the sound thwart the performers at every turn. Eventually, a few of these semi-amateur thespians, demoralized by disaster, go rogue. It’s a stage manager’s worst nightmare — and an audience’s cue for laughter. With an unconscious leading lady, a corpse that can’t play dead, and actors who trip over everything (including their lines), the accident-prone thespians battle against all odds to make it through to their final curtain!

Think you know your music?
If you know what song contains these lyrics, you would probably love Rock Star Bingo!
“And she’s watching him with those eyes,
And she’s loving him with that body, I just know it,
Yeah ‘n’ he’s holding her in his arms late, late at night.”
What is Rock Star Bingo?
Just like “regular” bingo, but we replaced bingo numbers, like “B16”, with parts of songs. If you know the song title (no phones, devices or apps – basically no cheating), then place a bingo chip on that square. Get 5 squares in a row and you’re a winner!!
It’s the most fun you will ever have playing bingo!
