The Stacks Debuts This Week!
The Stacks, a new immersive theatre piece created by QC actor/director Ben Gougeon, will hold its world premiere February 22-March 2 and will be hosted by Sound Conservatory in downtown Moline. The show will take place in the old library stacks of the newly relocated music academy at the former Carnegie Library.
Based around a fictional unsolved murder, The Stacks invites audiences to the night of September 25, 1957, when the body of Sam Hawkins is found in the stacks of a small Catholic college library . The play takes place simultaneously on multiple floors and in multiple rooms, and as the story unfurls, audience members can decide where to go and what to see, ensuring that everyone’s journey is unique, and each visit is different. Each character has a specific track and tells a different perspective of the story. Guests can choose to follow one actor or move around to different scenes in an attempt to answer the question, “Who killed Sam Hawkins?”
The Stacks: An Immersive Mystery will perform at Sound Conservatory’s downtown Moline location located at 504 17th St. on February 22, 23, 24, 29 and March 1 & 2. All performances begin at 7:30pm. Doors open to the public 30 minutes before curtain. Advanced reservations are highly encouraged as capacity is limited.

Black Box Presents Thrilling Show
The downtown Moline theatre, The Black Box, begin their 8th season with the chamber musical “Thrill Me: The Leopold and Loeb Story” with a book, music, and lyrics by Stephen Dolginoff. New for the theatre this year is a three-week run of each production.
The musical stars Adam Cerny and Daniel Williams with Musical Direction by Ron May and Direction and Design by BBT co-founder and Artistic Director, Lora Adams.
Based on the true story of Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb, dubbed “thrill killers” by the newspapers of the time, who kidnapped and murdered 14-year-old Bobby Franks in Chicago, Illinois, on May 21, 1924. They, particularly Loeb, had become enamored of the writings of Nietzsche and his concept of “supermen,” once writing “A superman … is, on account of certain superior qualities inherent in him, exempted from the ordinary laws which govern men. He is not liable for anything he may do.” May 2024 is the 100thanniversary of the “crime of the century.”
“I first heard about the case from my mother. She had been the manicurist to one of their brothers,” said director, Adams. “I am really happy to bring it to The Black Box because it is an intimate musical that fits perfectly into the intimacy of the theatre itself.”
This is the second time she and May have collaborated on the show.
Thrill Me: The Leopold and Loeb Story runs from February 9 to 24. Shows run Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday. Sundays at 2:00 pm, all other performances at 7:30 pm. Tickets are available at theblackboxtheatre.com.

Circa ’21 Hosting A Murderous Show
Just after midnight, a snowdrift stops the Orient Express in its tracks. The luxurious train is surprisingly full for the time of the year, but by the morning, it is one passenger fewer.
An American tycoon lies dead in his compartment, stabbed eight times, his door locked from the inside. Isolated and with a killer in their midst, the passengers rely on detective Hercule Poirot to identify the murderer — in case he or she decides to strike again. Ken Ludwig’s clever adaptation of the Agatha Christie classic boasts all the glamour, intrigue and suspense of Dame Agatha’s celebrated novel, with a healthy dose of humor to quicken the pace.
Directed by Cory Johnson, the star studded cast features Kimberly VanDerGinst, Tom Walljasper, Shelley Walljasper, Savannah Bay Strandin, Kyle DeFAuw among others!
