Genesius Guild season continues with Sounds and Sweet Airs
The Genesius Guild’s 2024 season continues with two weekends of Sounds and Sweet Airs – a special production developed by Don Wooten and first presented in 1966 for the Guild’s 10th anniversary season. Performances are July 6, 7, 13, and 14th at 7:00 PM in Lincoln Park, Rock Island. As always, admission to Genesius Guild shows are free.
This production by the Rock Island classical theater is a little different – rather than a single Shakespeare show, it is a collection of scenes and monologues. The performance explores the Bard’s greatest writing from across his plays and shows just how powerful and intricate Shakespeare’s writing can be.
Sounds and Sweet Airs is also the Guild’s annual high school production, with a cast featuring outstanding talent from high schools across the Quad Cities. The show is directed by Jeff Coussens, with assistant directors Marc Nelson and Liz Sager. The annual high school production is made possible by a grant from the Hubbell-Waterman Foundation.
The Genesius Guild is a community theatre organization located in the Quad Cities specializing in free classical drama. Founded in 1956, the group performs Greek drama, Greek comedy, the works of Shakespeare, and other classical authors for eight weekends each summer.
