Genesius Guild Closes Out Their 2024 Season Today With ‘Plutus’
The Genesius Guild is closing out their 2024 season tonight with a modern interpretation of the comedy Plutus at 7:00 PM at the Don Wooten Stage in Lincoln Park. Admission is free.
The production of Plutus continues the Guild’s tradition of ending their seasons with a lighthearted rewritten Greek comedy. This year’s script was updated by T Green and Calvin Vo, the duo behind the Quad Cities’ Haus of Ruckus, working from Don Wooten’s revamp of Aristophanes’ 2400 year old script.
As in many of Genesius’ Greek comedies, the basic plotline remains intact, following an old man (Chremylos) and his servant (Cario) as they encounter a blind beggar. They quickly discover that this beggar is actually the Greek god of wealth, Plutus, who seeks to regain his eyesight so that he can ensure that wealth is given only to the worthy. The show follows Plutus, Chremylos, and Cario as they navigate the ensuing chaos.
The Genesius Guild is a community theatre organization located in the Quad Cities specializing in free classical drama. Founded in 1956, the group performs Greek drama, Greek comedy, the works of Shakespeare, and other classical authors for eight weekends each summer.
