Lowland Block Party Invades Rock Island TODAY

After a three year hiatus, Lowland Block Party returns for its fourth edition 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3 at the Laborspace, 311 21st St., Rock Island.
Organizer Jon Burns posted the following about the event:
Rock Island's Lowland Block Party Returns Oct. 3 With Art, Beer, Music And MoreWe’ve carved out a nice lil block over the last decade on the east-side of the downtown, which we’ve self-identified as the Lowland area. Our block party not only brings awareness to our neighbors, but also to our creative and entrepreneurial friends that are scattered throughout the QC area, whom we’ve worked with and been inspired by over the years.

Mockingbird Presents ‘Enemy Of The People’

Lowland Block Party, Paa Kow, 'Company,' And More Invade This Week's FUN10

Mischa Hooker plays the doctor in “Enemy of the People” at Mockingbird on Main, opening Thursday night.

“Enemy of the People” will be performed at 8 p.m. through Saturday, Oct. 2 and Oct. 7-9 at Mockingbird on Main, 320 N. Main St., Davenport . Tickets are $15, available HERE.

Mockingbird On Main will require all guests, artists, volunteers, staff, sponsors, and media to show valid proof of full vaccination in order to enter. Proof of vaccination may be digital or a physical card. Additionally, all patrons must wear a mask while inside the theater.

​Children under 12 and unvaccinated patrons must provide proof of a negative Covid test no more than 72 hours prior to attending an indoor performance.

Paa Kow Pounding Into RME Thursday

Thursday, October 7 at 7:30pm, River Music Experience and Quad City Arts will present a free concert by the internationally-recognized drummer and composer Paa Kow (pronounced “Pah-Ko”) in the Redstone Room at 129 N Main Street, Davenport.

The concert represents a continued commitment by both organizations to present a wide variety of performing arts genres and styles. During Lowland Block Party, Paa Kow, 'Company,' And More Invade This Week's FUN10Paa Kow’s visit, he will present an educational workshop to students at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center in Rock Island.

“Bringing Paa Kow to our community is a rare opportunity,” said Tyson Danner, River Music Experience’s Executive Director. “Our audiences have never seen anything like this, and we’re lucky to have the chance to bring him to the Quad Cities in the midst of his international tours.”

“We are proud to partner with RME to present a prolific and unique artist like Paa Kow,” said Kevin Maynard, Executive Director of Quad City Arts. “Most of all, we are excited to present the educational workshop at the MLK Center, as it furthers both organizations’ goal of providing quality access to the performing arts in all educational environments.”

About Paa Kow

Having toured internationally, sharing stages with both African and American luminaries including Kojo Antwi, Amakye Dede and Victor Wooten, Ghana born drummer and composer, Paa Kow, (pronounced Pah-Ko), blends rhythm and artistry from his home with jazz and African roots creating his own Afro-Fusion sound. Dubbed “Ghana’s most artistic drummer” (Modern Ghana), he plays a custom, hand-carved, traditionally inspired Ghanaian drum set that is the only one of its kind in the world, guaranteeing an extraordinary cultural and musical experience.

Growing up in the small village of Enyan Denkyira near Cape Coast in Ghana, West Africa, Paa Kow began to play music and tour with his family’s concert band at a very early age. ‘Disenchanted’ Enchanting Audiences At Circa ’21

“Disenchanted!” runs through Nov. 6 and has scheduled performances on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:45 p.m., Sundays at 5:45 p.m., and Wednesday matinées at 1:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $56.55 for the evening dinner-and-show productions and $49.73 for the plated-lunch matinées.

‘Rent’ Coming To Adler TONIGHT

The producers of the RENT 25TH Anniversary Farewell Tour announced today that single tickets for the upcoming tour engagement on Sunday, October 3, 2021 at the Adler Theatre in Davenport are available in person at the Adler Theatre Box Office (136 E. 3rd St.) and online at Ticketmaster.com.  Tickets are $83, $55.50 and $40.50.

The 2021-22 Broadway at the Adler series features “Rent,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Cats,” and tributes to Simon & Garfunkel and Carole King. plus a rescheduled “Waitress” next June 1.

For a quarter of a century, Jonathan Larson’s RENT has inspired us to choose love over fear and to live without regret. This Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning phenomenon follows a year in the lives of a diverse group of artists and friends struggling to follow their dreams without selling out. It has become more than a musical – it’s a cultural touchstone, a rite of passage and a source of joy and strength for millions. RENT has become a part of us forever.

The show received its world premiere off-Broadway at New York Theatre Workshop on February 13, 1996 to ecstatic reviews and transferred to Broadway on April 29, 1996. RENT won the 1996 Tony Award for Best Musical as well as the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

Whether you’ve never seen RENT or have completely lost count, you can’t miss it this time around – the 25th Anniversary “Farewell Season of Love” is your FINAL CHANCE to experience this celebrated touring production.

Based on original direction by Michael Greif (Tony and Drama Desk Nominations, RENT), Evan Ensign re-stages the 20th anniversary tour. Original Broadway creatives Marlies Yearby (Choreography), Angela Wendt (Costume Design), and Tim Weil (Music Supervision and Additional Arrangements) are joined by Jonathan Spencer (Lighting Design), Keith Caggiano (Sound Design), MiRi Park (Associate Choreographer), and Matthew E. Maraffi (adapting original scenic design by Paul Clay) to make up the creative team for the tour. Casting for the tour is by Wojcik | Seay Casting.

The RENT 25th Anniversary Farewell Tour is produced by Work Light Productions whose other touring productions include the 2016 Olivier Award-winning production of Jesus Christ Superstar, Irving Berlin’s White Christmas, Bandstand, and the upcoming tour of the Lowland Block Party, Paa Kow, 'Company,' And More Invade This Week's FUN10TONY award winning musical Ain’t Too Proud.

“Pushout: The Criminalization of Black Girls in Schools” Movie at the Davenport Public Library

Join the Davenport Civil Rights Commission and the Davenport Public Library for a showing of “Pushout: The Criminalization of Black Girls in Schools” at the Main Library (321 N. Main St.) on Wednesday, October 6th at 5:30 pm. A discussion will take place after the movie.

Black Box Bringing ‘Company’ to the Quad-Cities

Phone Rings! Door Chimes! “Company” is coming to The Black Box Theatre of the Quad Cities !
Company is a 1970 musical comedy with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim (Assasins, Into the Woods, Sweeney Todd) and book by George Furth. The original production was nominated for a record-setting 14 Tony Awards, and won six.
Lowland Block Party, Paa Kow, 'Company,' And More Invade This Week's FUN10Originally titled Threes, its story revolves around Robert (a single man unable to commit fully to a steady relationship, let alone marriage), the five married couples who are his best friends, and his three girlfriends. Unlike most book musicals, which follow a clearly delineated plot, Company is a concept musical composed of short vignettes, presented in no particular chronological order, linked by a celebration for Robert’s 35th birthday.
Company was among the first musicals to deal with adult themes and relationships.
Directing “Company” is co-owner of The Black Box Theatre, David M Miller who was seen as Sam in this summer’s Mamma Mia at Quad City Music Guild. Choreographing the production is area theater veteran, Beth Marsoun who choreographed Mamma Mia at Quad City Music Guild this summer as well, with the pit lead by Music professional, Randin Letendre.
The triple threat cast is lead by Black Box Theatre veteran, Tommy Ratkiewicz-Stierwalt as Bobby, featuring Emmalee Hilburn & Joe Urbaitis as Sarah & Harry, Jacqueline Isaacson & Daniel Williams as Susan & Peter, Jennifer Cook Gregory & Brant Peitersen as Jenny & David, Jenny Winn & Michael Alexander as Amy & Paul, Wendy Czekalski & Mark Ruebling as Joanne & Larry rounded out with the trio of Abbey Donohoe , Noel Jean Huntley & Abby Bastian as April, Marta & Kathy! The Company cast is sure to tug at your heartstrings, keep you laughing with their comedic delivery, wow you with their perfected choreography and leave you in awe of their stunning vocals & harmonization!

The comedy is rated PG-13 for Adult Themes. It’s directed by Jennifer Kingry, and stars Stephanie Naab and Adam Cerny.
Lily, an aging but formidable retiree, hires Michael, an acerbic dance instructor, to give her dance lessons in her condo in St. Petersburg Beach, Florida. Antagonism between a gay man and the wife of a Southern Baptist minister gives way to profound compatibility as they swing dance, tango, foxtrot, and cha-cha while sharing barbs and intimacies along with the dance steps. By the final lesson, Lily shares with Michael her most closely guarded secret, and he shares with her his greatest gifts – loyalty and compassion. A poignant comedy with music and dance, the play also address the serious issues of ageism and intolerance.
Since its Los Angeles premiere and Broadway opening, Six Dance Lesson in Six Weeks has been translated into 14 languages and has traversed the globe with productions in 24 countries. The play has established itself as an international hit and one of the most produced plays in the world.

Fridays and Saturdays, doors at Playcrafters open at 6:30 p.m. with the show beginning at 7:30 p.m. Sundays are 3 p.m. matinees with the doors opening at 2.
