Teen Audiobook Club Starts This Week
Teens (11-19) are invited to join Miss Amber on Tuesdays beginning June 22nd at 2:00 pm in the Fairmount Street Library’s Garden for a new teen audiobook club! This summer we will be listening together to one of 2020’s best-selling and award-winning books, Stamped: Racism, Anti-Racism and You written by Jason Reynolds & Ibram X. Kendi and read by Jason Reynolds. As a group, we will listen to portions of the audiobook and work on quiet projects in the garden including gardening, crafting, and meditating. Teens can choose to bring their own projects (such as a sketchbook, etc) or work on something offered by Miss Amber.
Please dress appropriately for sun, warm weather, and messy crafts. Space is limited in order to maintain social distancing. In case of inclement weather, the event will be canceled.

Pop! Goes The Figge Museum
Pop Art pioneers Roy Lichtenstein, Takashi Murakami, Andy Warhol, and more will truly pop at Figge Art Museum this summer with Pop Power from Warhol to Koons: Masterworks from the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation.

The newest exhibition to arrive at the Figge (225 W. St., Davenport) features more than 100 works that have never been seen in the Quad-Cities before.
An exclusive members-only preview will open the powerhouse exhibition on Friday, June 25 with a special tour given by Jordan D. Schnitzer, who has collected the masterpieces in the show throughout his life. The exhibition opens to the public on Saturday, June 26. Advance tickets are encouraged and available at www.figgeartmuseum.org.
“The Pop artists whose works are on display are iconic—women and men whose art has been revered and admired across the globe,” said Michelle Hargrave, executive director of the Figge.

an exhibition we are sure will be adored by art enthusiasts and those visiting the Figge for the first time.”
“It is, frankly, a cool and wildly exciting exhibition to welcome our community indoors at the Figge this summer,” she added.
Pop Power from Warhol to Koons features works from the largest private collection of Pop and Neo-Pop in the nation and demonstrates that the Pop aesthetic first imagined in the 1960s is as popular today as ever, a Figge release said.
Genesius Guild Has Returned!
An adapted version of Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure will open the Genesius Guild’s 2021 season with performances at 7 p.m. on June 26 and 27.
All performances are held at the Don Wooten Stage in Lincoln Park, 1120 40th St., Rock Island, and admission is free. Opening weekend marks the Genesius Guild’s return to live theater after cancelling the 2020 season.
Sometimes known as one of Shakespeare’s problem plays – shows that are not explicitly comedies or tragedies – Measure for Measure is a “fascinating exploration of how power can corrupt, with comedic overtones,” according to a Genesius Guild release.
“The play’s characters are complex creatures – even the principal character and hero of the show, Duke Vincentio, has an unsavory tendency to manipulate other characters,” the company says.
In the story, Vienna’s Duke Vincentio announces that he is going to retire from public rule for a while, leaving Angelo in his place. He is called a “prenzie” — a person arrogantly proud of his virtue. Angelo immediately starts on a reckless course of rigorous law enforcement, bringing Claudio under threat of execution for getting his fiancée, Juliet, pregnant.
Claudio sends for his sister, Isabella, who is about to enter a convent, to plead his case. Angelo’s surprising response sets the plot in motion. What he doesn’t know is that the Duke remains in Vienna, disguised as a friar, to see how his deputy behaves in office and to learn something of the lower classes in his dukedom.
Complications ensue, frequently made more difficult by the disguised Duke’s behavior.
‘Bandwagon’ Brings Late Nite Comedy Back To Black Box
At long last – live, improvised, inappropriate acoustic-rock comedy is back! June 26 at 7:30 pm join the comedic musical stylings of 
Bandwagon.
Be part of the meteoric rise of a totally made-up rock band with Bandwagon, a comedy show where you name the band, you pick the songs, and we rock your socks. Featuring some of your favorite Quad Cities comedy talents, Bandwagon is always a new concert experience with an evening of improv comedy scenes, musical mischief, and audience interactivity in downtown Moline’s Black Box Theatre, 1623 5th Avenue.
Masks must be worn by anyone not inoculated against Covid. All other patrons may choose to wear a mask or not.
Tickets are available at theblackboxtheatre.com for $10. All uncensored shows intended for audiences 18 and over.

The Chalk Art Fest community art piece will be a rendering of iconic David Bowie.
brings together hundreds of local and regional artists that spend hours transforming the blank cement pavement into magnificent works of art, using only the medium of chalk.
Visitors strolling by can see the wonderful works of art as they come to life, vote for their favorite and even do some chalk art of their own, by taking part in the collaborative community piece. This year’s community piece is rock, fashion and art icon, David Bowie – for a $5 donation, you’ll be given a set of pastels to fill in a 2’x2’ square of the larger image.
When finished, the larger image comes to life as a complete work of art!

Starlight Concert Series Spotlights Tuesday Free Concerts
The Starlight Revue Concert Series in Rock Island is offering free concerts!
The Tuesday night free Starlight Revue series begins in Lincoln Park on May 18 with River City 6. Starting 5 p.m., Hy-Vee Grille and Rock Island Parks and Recreation will sell food and drink, with the concerts starting at 7 p.m. The upcoming 2021 lineup is:

Jazz drummer and Q-C bandleader Josh Duffee recently posted that his concert will commemorate the 20th anniversary of their first Starlight Revue show June 30, 2001, and this summer’s concert will also be a tribute to legendary drummer Gene Krupa (1909-1973) and his orchestra.

RME Rocks With Live At Five On Fridays
The River Music Experience, 2nd and Main streets, Davenport, has brought back the free Live@Five on Fridays from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Last year due to Covid, the series was limited to August and September.
River Music Experience is a nonprofit that completely pivoted its programming during the pandemic.
The RME courtyard will host live music featuring a wide range of genres and styles. Like last summer, the series asks patrons to wear a mask when you can’t maintain a distance of at least six feet from others not in your party. And when choosing your seating, pick a place at least six feet from other parties. The pavement will be marked to help you in that process.
