Rozz Tox Hosting Thick Paint And Salsa Chest
Rozz-Tox, 2108 3rd Ave., Rock Island, will host its first indoor show since March 2020 on Thursday, Aug. 12 at 8 p.m., with the bands Thick Paint (Omaha) and Salsa Chest (Atlanta).
Doors will open at 7 p.m., with show at 8 p.m., and $10 admission, limited to 50 people maximum. Rozz-Tox owner Benjamin Fawks said recently he waited until now to have an indoor concert “because it felt right — I just didn’t think it was responsible to have indoor gatherings during a pandemic. plus a lot of the artists that I book here were not touring for the same reason.
“This is slowly changing and we have put in place a Covid policy for indoor live shows to help with the safety of our customers, staff, and performers,” he said, noting rules at rozztox.com/covid-policy.
The site says:
As we jump back into indoor live music, the health and safety of our customers, staff & performers will be our top priority. please follow these guidelines when purchasing tickets to shows here. all indoor shows will have a limited capacity of 50, and we ask that you purchase tickets ahead of time, as that will help with contact tracing and the shows will most likely sell out due to the lowered capacity.
These guidelines will be in place until we feel comfortable removing them — most likely for the remainder of 2021.
entry:
- all attendees must show proof of vaccination (a photo is acceptable) OR a negative covid test up to 3 days prior to entry. if you need help finding where to get the vaccine, or need more information about the vaccine itself, visit https://richd.org/.
masks:
- masks are not mandatory for the time being – this could change in the near future.
hand sanitizing:
- please use the hand sanitizer when entering/ leaving the building and the washrooms.
seating:
- we ask that you do not move tables & chairs around.
ventilation:
- the AC and fans will stay on during the show, and we have an air scrubber installed in the HVAC system.
outdoors:
- the outdoor space — patio, garden & terrace — will all be open during shows, and you are welcome to hang out there and order from the window. no ticket or vaccine requirement for outdoor hangs.
Fawks noted that the café has regular indoor/outdoor hours – Wednesday 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Thursday-Saturday 10 a.m. to midnight, and Sunday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. “We hope to have things returned to some kind of normalcy next year, provided there isn’t another Covid surge,” he said. “We’re just trying to do what we think is right, keeping people’s safety in mind.”
Rozz-Tox bills itself as a “listening bar, cafe, brasserie, zakka, performance venue, gallery, culture cell, guesthouse, library, cinema, club; a virus whose ultimate goal is to constantly mutate to avoid becoming part of mainstream culture.”
