Davenport Schools Holiday Concert Tuesday

The public is cordially invited to attend the Davenport Community School District’s 70th Annual Holiday Concert, to be held at the beautiful and historic Adler Theatre on Tuesday, November 29, beginning at 7:00 p.m.  The concert features the Central, North, and West high school music departments, and is FREE and OPEN to the public as a thank you for community support of the Fine Arts.  Music by the Central High School Brass Choir will greet you starting at 6:30 p.m. in the theatre lobby.  The concert will end at approximately 8:15 p.m.

In 1951 F.E. Mortiboy, instrumental director and Milton Anderson, vocal music director at Davenport High School (now Central) with the Davenport Consistory and the Davenport Scottish Rite Bodies established an annual Holiday concert as a gift to the community.  The first performance was not the Messiah, but a production of Amahl and the Night Visitor by Gian-Carlo Menotti.  It was decided the next year that selections from the Messiah and other Holiday music by the band and orchestra would have a more popular appeal.  This concert has expanded to include choirs, orchestras, and bands of Central, North and West high schools.

Maddie Poppe to Perform Christmas Music At Iowa's Rhythm City Casino

Maddie Poppe is a twenty-four-year-old singer-songwriter from Clarksville, Iowa and Season 16 winner of American Idol. Maddie fell in love with music at a young age, learning to play guitar, ukulele and piano. In 2016, Maddie released her debut album, “Songs from the Basement,” which she wrote, produced and recorded alongside her father, Trent. After years of performing locally in Iowa, she decided to audition for American Idol and was ultimately crowned the winner in May 2018.

Since her Idol victory, Maddie has appeared on multiple TV shows including Jimmy Kimmel Live, Live! With Kelly & Ryan and the Radio Disney Music Awards and the Kelly Clarkson Show. Maddie’s sophomore album Whirlwind reached #2 on the iTunes Pop charts and her single “Made You Miss” earned #19 on the Hot AC Radio charts. Her sentimental ballad “Not Losing You” also swept radio charts, reaching #17.

In Fall 2019, Maddie supported Ingrid Michaelson on The Dramatic Tour, an experience she calls a dream come true.
Hoping to brighten the 2020 holiday season, Maddie released a holiday EP aptly titled Christmas From Home on November 20th and embarked on a near-sold out acoustic Christmas tour. Maddie is currently working on new music!
