Family Fun Day And Bike Rodeo At Lincoln Residences Riding In

Rock Island, ILA Family Fun Day & Bike Rodeo, a joint event with the Rock Island Police Department, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, August 27, at Lincoln Residences, located at 809 6th Avenue, Rock Island, IL. Lincoln Residences includes forty-six homes in a combination of triplexes, duplexes and single-family homes.

“We hope this Family Fun Day becomes an annual community event,” said Susan Anderson, Community Home Partners (CHP) Chief Family Fun Day And Bike Rodeo At Lincoln Residences Riding InExecutive Officer.

All Quad-Citians, including Community Home Partners families, are invited. Family fun events include:

  • A variety of resources for families. Fifteen brand-new bikes, including helmets and bike chains, will be given to 15 pre-registered CHP kids (age range 6 to 13). Volunteers will be on-hand to adjust/fit bikes and helmets to each child.
  • Bicycle repair and maintenance clinic for ALL kids and ALL bikes.
  • The Rock Island Police Department will conduct bicycle safety training for all kids with bikes. Each participant will receive a safety training certificate upon completion of training.
  • Petting zoo and balloons.
  • Refreshments include snow cones, cotton candy, popcorn, juice boxes and water.

Any CHP child with a bike is invited to bring it to the rodeo. A volunteer group will offer a bike clinic, and each bike will receive a thorough safety check. Any bike repairs (brakes, tires, chain, etc.) will be noted.  Volunteers will purchase required supplies and make appointments with parents to make required repairs at a later date.

Bike purchases were funded by an independent group that wanted to help provide a new bike for every CHP child, as well as THRIVE educational grant funding. The entire event will be staffed with CHP property management and maintenance, along with pest control and THRIVE Resident Services coordinators.

THRIVE is a voluntary five-year program that provides a pathway for individuals who want to improve their quality of life and/or economic situation through personal development and growth. THRIVE guides/coordinators collaborate with public and private partners to help participants to develop the strategies and coordinate the resources and services to empower them to actively pursue and achieve their goals. THRIVE Resident Services will have an information table and a coloring corner (coloring books and crayons provided) at the event.

In addition to the bike-related activities, the purpose of the event is to bring together CHP residents. It’s also an opportunity for residents and the community to interact with maintenance and management teams, along with other CHP team members. Call 309.429.1908 or 309.506.1066 for more information.
