Take a Journey Through Time at Prospect Park
Take a step back in time this weekend while helping one of the Quad Cities’ earliest parks move forward.
The Moline Parks and Recreation Department presents, Prospect Park Through Time, this Saturday Oct 6 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. in Prospect Park (Park 16th Street and 30th Avenue).
This event will showcase a historic walking parade at 1 p.m. around the pond. Groups will be portraying the different generations the park has witnessed since 1891. To lead off the procession the Mayor of the day, John Wessell, will be commentating. Before and after the parade, enjoy classic cars, magicians and storytelling. Grab a bite to eat from available vendors.
This event is free and open to the public; however, donations are encouraged to help support the final Prospect Park projects.
Quad City Music Guild, in partnership with the Moline Park Board, will be performing A Grand Night for Singing, A Celebration of Rodgers & Hammerstein. Showtimes are on Saturday Oct 6 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday Oct 7 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $25 and proceeds from this production will be used for the restoration of Prospect Park Pavilion and other park renovations. Prospect Park dates back to 1889, when the Moline Central Railway Company purchased 35 acres of land on what was then the far outskirts of town. Prospect Park was created as a destination for the new trolley car lines and to further the need to use the cars to generate more revenue. Prospect Park had an active trolley route to it right up until the 1930s. The park continues to serve as an oasis of calm beauty in an otherwise active part of town.
