Smash Bros. Tournament Smashing Into North Park

Typically, when the topic of video games and their technological evolution comes up, it becomes pretty obvious that updates and new releases are constant and usually replace the previous versions. However, there is one game that has stayed in the forefront of tournaments and competitions worldwide. That would be Super Smash Bros. Melee (for the GameCube, released in 2001).

More than fifteen years after its release, Super Smash Bros. Melee still has the ability to bring massive groups of fans together, whether in tournaments or on Twitch. And one of those tournaments are coming here to the Quad Cities!

Pro Tournament League is hosting We Livin’ 11 this Saturday July 29 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at North Park Mall (320 W Kimberly Road Davenport).

We Livin’ 11 is a Smash Bros. tournament for both the Melee (GameCube) and Smash 4 (Wii U) versions. There is a venue fee of $10. Melee singles are only $10 to enter. Melee doubles are $5 (or $10 per team). Smash 4 singles are $10. Each tournament will use the Evo 2017 Rule Set. You can register upon arrival.

Cash prizes will be given to first, second and third place finishers in their respective game/event. The amount of entrance fees will be the deciding factor for the prize pool.

Check out the Facebook event page for more information or if you have any inquires at https://www.facebook.com/events/481069282241030/.

Keith Hamaker, which will be making his debut as the Head Tournament Operator for the Melee tournament feels “like everyone has played super smash bros with their friends and family” and that he loves “seeing the competitive nature come out in people”. In the past, Keith has run tournament brackets, helped seeded players and helped with general questions in Chicago, Milwaukee, Boston, and other Iowa events. He loves the community and plans to help with growth any way possible.

Keith enjoys helping out because “these tournaments have such a diverse group of people, as opposed to people who usually think it’s just a bunch of ‘nerds’ playing a video game. It’s a great place for people to have fun relax, and be yourself while playing a game that millions of people love”.

Come on out, be yourself, and play some Super Smash Bros!
