QC Fun Con A Blast To Area Comics, Cosplay And Sci-Fi Fans
As a fire-and-brimstone preacher delivered a fiery oratory about comics fans courting hell and the devil on one floor of Davenport’s Hotel Davenport and Conference Center Sunday afternoon, far more pleasant and happy people chatted about other fantastic scenarios on the floor below as the annual Q-C Fun Con drew several hundred people to the venue for a great time.
Comics exhibitors watched as fans filed through boxes upon boxes of golden oldies issues. Artists and other creative types plied their vibrant wares to interested fans. Video games were played on the big screen, movies were screened, seemingly one in every three people was dressed in some form of cool cosplay and kids of all ages got to have their pictures taken with comics characters like Deadpool and sci-fi legends like Chewbacca.
Local sci-fi legends the Bornhoeft brothers, Chris and Steven, of East Moline, had a huge booth showing off some of their cool “Star Wars” and Marvel Comics memorabilia and costumes, including a full-sized Chewbacca, Admiral Ackbar and BB-8, as well as two versions of Captain America’s shield, the good Captain’s costume from “Civil War,” Indiana Jones’ costume, the Ghostbusters’ power pack for catching spirits and a whole lot more.
In all, it was an awesome time with a great vibe, as Q-Cs comics and sci-fi conventions usually are. If you get the chance, definitely check it out next year.
