Blippi Live!

When Kamasi Washington released his tour de force LP, The Epic, in 2015, it instantly set him on a path as our generation’s torchbearer for progressive, improvisational music that would open the door for young audiences to experience music unlike anything they had heard before. The 172-minute odyssey featuring his 10-piece band, The Next Step, was littered with elements of hip-hop, classical and R&B music, all major influences on the young saxophonist and bandleader, who exceeds any notions of what “jazz” music is. Released to critical acclaim, The Epic won numerous “best of” awards, including the inaugural American Music Prize and the Gilles Peterson Worldwide album of the year. Washington followed that work with collaborations with other influential artists such as Kendrick Lamar, John Legend, Run the Jewels, Ibeyi and the creation of “Harmony of Difference,” a standalone multimedia installation during the prestigious 2017 Biennial at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City.
His mass appeal continues to grow drawing vibrant, multi-ethnic and multi-generational crowds with tour stops at the world’s most prominent festivals such as Coachella, Glastonbury, Fuji Rock, Bonnaroo and Primavera. Most recently, Bill was a contestant on season 17 of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, and as a fan favorite, he made it to the finals. Earlier this year, Bill lent his voice to the animated comedy series Bounty Hunters, which aired on CMT. He previously starred in, and executive produced, the TBS sitcom The Bill Engvall Show. Bill was part of the enormously successful Blue Collar Comedy concert films, which sold over nine million units and received a Grammy nomination. He also starred on the WB’s hit sketch comedy show Blue Collar TV and in several solo specials for Comedy Central. In 2012 he reunited with Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy on the Them Idiots Whirled Tour, which aired as a special on CMT.
Bill’s first album, Here’s Your Sign, is certified platinum and held the #1 position on the Billboard Comedy Chart for 15 straight weeks. His second album, Dorkfish, also debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Comedy Chart, as did his subsequent comedy albums. Bill has written several books, including his 2007 autobiography Bill Engvall –Just A Guy.
A native of Galveston, Texas, Bill moved to Dallas and worked as a disc jockey with plans of becoming a teacher. While in a nightclub one evening, he tried his hand at stand-up comedy and found that making people laugh was truly his forte. Soon after, he moved to Los Angeles and went on to star in the Showtime special, A Pair of Joker’s, hosted A&E’s Evening at the Improv and appeared on The Tonight Show and Late Show with David Letterman. In 1992, Bill won the American Comedy Award for “Best Male Stand-up Comedian.” He appeared in several episodes of Designing Women and co-starred in Delta and The Jeff Foxworthy Show. All Sweat Productions is a live music project started in 2016 by The Candymakers’ Al Sweet, that brings musicians from all over the area – from different bands and genres – together over a shared love of some of the most iconic bands, moments, and albums in the history of music.
Some shows will include full-on tribute acts complete with costume changes and makeup. Others will feature hit albums in their entirety and all shows look to keep the musical integrity of the artists we all enjoy.

Quad City Symphony Orchestra and Augustana Oratorio Society : Masterworks V: Requiem

Verdi’s “Messa da Requiem” is a religious and emotional work. The performance will feature a full chorus lead by Augustana Professor Jon Hurty.
(Another performance will be offered at 8 p.m. March 7 at the Adler Theatre in Davenport.
One hour prior to each Masterworks performance, concert goers are invited to attend informal pre-concert conversations hosted by Kai Swanson to hear about the works being presented.
“Messa da Requiem” is a musical setting of a Catholic funeral mass for four soloists, double choir and orchestra. The soloists will be Alexandria Shiner, soprano; Daryl Freedman, mezzo-soprano; Cooper Nolan, tenor; and Steven Humes, bass
The Requiem was composed in memory of Alessandro Manzoni, an Italian poet and novelist whom Verdi admired. The first performance was in Milan, Italy, in 1874, on the first anniversary of Manzoni’s death.
