“Whether you want to know where to start reading, or you want to discuss one of his books you’ve already read, we can help,” says Emily Tobin, a Young Adult Librarian at Rock Island Public Library.
Tobin will host an informal talk about Jason Reynolds’ books at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, March 19, at Cool Beanz Coffeehouse, 1325 30th Street. Guests can purchase a coffee or beverage and learn a little about Reynolds’ books or share thoughts about ones they’ve already read. Unlike a book club, no advance reading is required.
Reynolds writes books for middle-grade, high school and adult audiences. His works include When I Was the Greatest, The Boy in the Black Suit, All American Boys (co-written with Brendan Kiely), As Brave As You, For Every One, Miles Morales: Spider Man, the Track series (Ghost, Patina, Sunny, and Lu), and Long Way Down, which received both a Newbery Honor and a Printz Honor. He is also a New York Times bestselling author, and has earned acclaim as a National Book Award Honoree, a Kirkus Award winner, a two time Walter Dean Myers Award winner, an NAACP Image Award Winner, and multiple Coretta Scott King honors.
The award-winning writer is visiting the Quad Cities for three public presentations and book signings hosted by the Davenport and Rock Island Public Libraries. Reynolds will speak in person on Thursday, March 28 at 6:00 pm at the Davenport Public Library Main Branch, and again on Friday, March 29 at 9:30 am and 1:00 pm in the Rock Island High School Auditorium. The Rock Island Public Library and Rock Island High School are working together to host Reynolds.
