‘Heidi’ Screening And Lecture Coming To Figge

heidiThe German American Heritage Center is sponsoring a new film and lecture series called “Germans in Hollywood” that debuts at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7 at the Figge Art Museum, John Deere Auditorium. The first film to be screened is “Heidi.” Cost is $5.

Presenter Fred Isele will introduce “Heidi,” an American musical drama film directed by Allan Dwan. The screenplay was based on the 1880 children’s story by Swiss author Johanna Spyri.

The film is about an orphan named Heidi (Shirley Temple) who is given by her aunt to her mountain-dwelling grandfather (Jean Hersholt). She is then stolen by her aunt to live in a wealthy household in Frankfurt, Germany as a companion to Klara, a sheltered and disabled girl in a wheelchair. Shown in entirety.
