Harry Potter Fest Magically Appears In Muscatine
A new festival is magically appearing in Muscatine this weekend – the first annual Harry Potter Festival
Saturday, April 29, in Muscatine.
Patrons will be able to fly in on their brooms to enjoy quidditch tournaments, card games, tailgating, delicacies like butter beer and more at the free event beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Muscatine Community College, 152 Colorado Ave. on the Park Ave. Recreation Field (formerly Heinz Field).
The MCC “Dementors” Intramurals Quidditch team is playing against the Augustana Quidditch team. There will be a food vendor, along with a practice/demo area for kids to try their hand at flying a broomstick and throwing bulgers and quaffles. There will also be themed characters that will be present and an arts/craft vendor or two on site. The game will have an announcer, refs, cheering fans, snitches yielding silly string, yellow and red card penalties (for added drama and safety), and more.
“This will be a unique opportunity for area residents to experience this sport in action, as the MCC literature class is bringing the Harry Potter book series to life on the MCC campus,” added Chad Bishop, one of the organizers of the event. “This is going to be a really cool event for fans of the Harry Potter books and just the general public. It’s a great way for them to become introduced to the world of Harry Potter and for fans it’s a great way for them to be a part of bringing that world to life.”
The campus and community Potter fans have been abuzz about it since it was announced last month, Bishop said.
“I think Potter fans are really going to love it, it’s just going to be a really fun event,” Bishop said. “It’s always great to be a part of these things, just to make people happy and have events that people enjoy.”
