From Heart to the Human Slingshot, here’s what’s hopping in downtown Moline
Downtown Moline is going to be bursting with Heart, heritage and a human slingshot over the next couple of weeks, and the good folks of Moline Centre are happy to holler about it. Here’s the rundown of their events coming up for your perusement and amusement:
The Moline Historic Preservation Commission, in conjunction with Moline Centre and the City of Moline, is proud to announce the roll out of a new Self-Guided Heritage Walking tour in Moline on Saturday, May 14, from 10 a.m. to noon. The new system will allow you to access the tour through your smart phone via QR codes that will be available on kiosk posters, postcards as well as the Moline Centre website. Meet up at the kiosk on the corner of River Drive and 15th Street where guided tours will take place at 10, 10:15 and 10:30. An architectural scavenger hunt is also being planned.
Gather the kids and head on over to the iWireless Center for the Garden Brothers Circus on May 16. Experience the heart-pounding thrill that comes from watching motorcycle daredevils, Chinese Acrobats and the Human Slingshot, along with the daring aerialists, racing camels and, the clowns, of course! This will be your last chance to see live elephants, so reserve your tickets today.
Come witness the iconic ‘70s rock band, Heart, at the iWireless Center on May 17 at 7 p.m. The Wilson sisters, Ann and Nancy, who lead the band, wrote all the songs and played the instruments, making them the first women to ever front a hard rock band. Heart will be performing a series of their well-known hits such as “Magic Man,” “Crazy on You,” “Barracuda,” and more. Over the course of their career, they have released six Top 10 albums, twenty Top 40 singles in addition to being elected into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013.
Bass Street Chop House will be hosting their monthly wine tasting on May 20 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., serving up complimentary hors d’oeurves and a wide variety of wine styles.
Mark your calendars for the Quad Cities Craft Beer Festival, taking place May 21 on The Plaza at Bass Street Landing. Featuring a carefully curated line-up of brews from the Quad Cities and surrounding communities, these most cheers-worthy microbrewers will be doling out samples of their cerebral beverages to all who enter. Tickets can be purchased online and at the gate. VIP hour is from noon to 1 p.m. Regular festival hours are 1 to 4 p.m. Food from Bent River Brewing Company and Bass Street Chop House will be also be available for purchase.
Come meet area author, Teresa LaBella, at Dead Poet’s Espresso on May 21. She will be selling and signing two of her current books, “Reservations” and “Heartland”, from 1 to 4 p.m. Share a fresh bean brew and chat with her about these new romance novels.
