Firebirds Filling Q-C For ‘Smokey and the Bandit’ Event
The car chases. The witty banter between Burt Reynolds and Sally Field. The redneck hijinks of Jackie Gleason and his bumbling array of cops hot in pursuit.
If you smiled at the mention of any of those things, you’re probably a fan of the 1977 film “Smokey and the Bandit,” and if you are, you’ll want to check out the BanditRun, coming to town Thursday to LeClaire, Iowa, and Friday and Saturday, to Davenport.
Around 100 replica Trans Ams, semis and the police cars from the movie have been traveling across the country since May 27, rolling through Sandusky and Dayton, Ohio, Nashville, Indiana and Pontiac, Illinois, and will land in the Quad-Cities this weekend, beginning with a parade along U.S. 67 at 5 p.m. Thursday. This year, at each stop of the Bandit Run, the organizers of the event will be doing a special raffle to win prizes. They’ll be raffling everything from tires, clocks, mugs, decals and more.
The sponsors have provided many great prizes for a good cause. All money towards raffle tickets purchased, along with donations, will be given to Camp Quality USA. Camp Quality serves children with cancer and their families by providing year-round programs, experiences, and companionship at no cost. Camp Quality promotes hope and inspiration while helping children foster life skills and develop their full potential.
