Enjoy a Mycology Class at Nahant Marsh Today
Due to popular demand, Nahant Marsh has added a SECOND SESSION of our Intro to Mycology series! This second session will take place during the same weeks as the first session, but on Thursday as opposed to Tuesday!
A four-part, hands-on introduction to mycology for beginners, foragers, or anyone interested in collecting or studying fungi. Participants in the class will learn how to observe, document, collect, and catalog the fungi in our region.
The focus of this class will be on fieldwork with some classroom time. At the end of this program participants will have a good understanding of fungal ecology, as well as be able to identify, describe, and identify mushrooms and fungi by recognition, research, and use of identification keys. Techniques covered in this class will be mushroom photography, spore printing, documentation, and reagents. Course will be instructed by mushroom expert Joshua Shomo. Recommended text is “Mushrooms of the Midwest” by Michael Kuo and Andrew Methven.
