Circa ’21 Dinner Playhouse seeking actors for ‘Junie B. Jones’
Ever wanted to be on stage?
Circa ’21 Dinner Playhouse is holding auditions for the area premiere of “Junie B. Jones, The Musical,” an adaptation of four of Barbara Park’s hugely popular, best-selling children’s books brought to life in a genuinely comical and “not strictly-for-kids” musical. Auditions will be held Saturday, March 5 at 11 a.m. at the theatre, 1828 3rd Ave, Rock Island.
“Junie” is the third different show produced at the Rock Island theatre, based on Barbara Park’s children’s books.
Helming the spring children’s musical is director Kim Furness, popular Quad-Cities director, actor, teacher and founder of The Curtainbox Theatre. Furness has the distinction of being the only director in the Quad-Cities to have directed all of the Junie B. shows produced here. Working with Furness as musical director is long time local favorite actor, musical director and music teacher Shelley Walljasper.
Furness and Walljasper are seeking both men and women who are strong actor/ singers who move well, to play multiple roles. Those auditioning must be at least 18 years old, prepare 16 bars of an upbeat song, bring sheet music in the proper key and be prepared to read from the script and to move. An accompanist will be provided and no recorded accompaniment will be permitted. All are asked to dress comfortably. The roles of Junie and Mr. Scary have been cast. All other roles are open. Only local actors will be considered due to lack of available housing
Rehearsals will begin April 5 and the show opens April 19. There will be 15 daytime performances between April 19 and May 21. The will be no evening performances.
