Christopher Reno and Rene Meyer Ernst Artworks at Quad City Arts
On exhibit from June 28 through August 16, 2019 at Quad City Arts in downtown Rock Island will be paintings by Christopher Reno of Galesburg, IL, and digital collages by Rene Meyer Ernst of Davenport, IA.
Christopher Reno creates paintings that are based on the grid as a structure from which to improvise. Reno states, “Technology allows me to incorporate manipulated photographic imagery and capitalize on the efficient repetitive labor of digital output tools such a plotters or engravers to make objects that I could never make with my own hand.” His paintings act as a marker for his experiences.
Rene Meyer Ernst makes a powerful statement about her personal identity and the concept of belonging, with her digital collages composed of photographs from her home here and Korea. Themes in her work are culture, discovery, gain, loss, confusion and desire. The combination of elements represents the synthesis and dissection of experiences the artist has had in her adoption journey. Her collaged photographs are physical evidence of otherwise formless memories from a life that may have been, but never was.
Christopher Reno is currently the Gallery Director and University Curator at St. Ambrose University and the Co-Director of the Quad Cities Veterans Art Initiative. Rene Meyer Ernst is currently an Associate Professor of Art at St. Ambrose University.
The public is invited to meet the artists and enjoy complimentary food and beverages from 7-9pm on June 28th at Quad City Arts in Rock Island.
