Choo Choo! Little Conductors Day Steams Into Botanical Center
If you have a child in your life that loves Thomas the Tank Engine, Chuggington or any other train related character, you’re going to want to chug on down to the Quad City Botanical Center from 11 to 4 p.m. Sunday for Little Conductors Day!
The event features garden train related activities, refreshments, crafts, train characters, an all-gage sale and swap meet and more. Admission is $8 youth 2-15 years, $6 adults, free for children younger than 2 years/members.
The newly renovated outdoor railroad area features an elaborate diorama of tracks, miniature landscapes and moving engines as well as a myriad of hands-on children’s activities.
“It’s nice to see it come to fruition, it’s been over a year in the making,” said Joe Weston, conductor and president of the Heartland Central Model Railroad Club, which runs the QCBC tracks. “We’re always working on making it better for the kids and it’s fun to watch them all enjoying it.”
“We always say the Botanical Center is a kind of hidden gem in the Quad-Cities, and I think our train garden is really one of the bright jewels in it as well,” said Ellen Loechner, Education Manager of the QCBC.
The event is made possible by Heartland Central Garden Railroad. For more information or reservations, call (309) 794-0991 or visit qcgardens.com.
