Build Your World At DPL’s Minecraft Contest
Summer is officially here! The time when parents picture their children playing outside all day long with neighborhood friends. That was until the wildly popular game, Minecraft, came into the picture.
It’s no secret that creepers, Enderman and pickaxes have taken over most homes since 2009 when the game was first released. But video games are supposed to be bad for kids, right? Not this one!
If you have either watched your children play this game or were brave enough to try it yourself, you will find very quickly that the critical thinking skills needed to play are actually quite intense. Yet somehow these kids make it look simple! Creativity, problem-solving, self-direction and collaboration are just a few of the life-long benefits that will help children succeed.
Want some even better news? There is now an opportunity for your children to test their skills against other kids in a Minecraft Building Contest! That’s right, a chance for socialization that they will enjoy!
The Davenport Public Library (3000 N Fairmount Street) is hosting a Minecraft Building Contest on Saturday June 24 from 10 a.m until 12 p.m. Winners will even take home a prize!
If you think your child has what it takes to compete, then call the Davenport Library at (563) 326-7832 to register, today!
Good luck to all the builders! May your blocks create shelters and may your mods be compatible!
