Bid Happy Birthday To A Q-C Jazz Legend
One of the greatest legends to ever hail from the Quad Cities was a jazz artist and musical genius. That’s right, none other than the infamous Bix Beiderbecke. And it’s time to celebrate his birthday!
The Bix Society is holding their annual Bix Birthday Bash on March 10 at Rhythm City Casino (7077 Elmore Ave Davenport). The celebration goes from 5-9pm with a $10 admission to help raise money for their Youth Education program.
Everyone is encouraged to bring their dancing shoes, but feel free to grab your flapper dresses and suits and ties to recreate your best roaring 20’s attire. If you are not in the mood for the Charleston or Fox Trot, that is not a problem, either. You are welcome to enjoy the music by simply listening, as well.
Live music will go from 6-9pm, starting with the Locust Street Boys from Davenport. Then the 20-piece DB Orchestra (with singer) from Madison will take over, all of whom studied under a “Bixophile” at UW. And don’t forget the Birthday Cake!
Come enjoy this night filled with energy and excitement, while celebrating one of Jazz’ biggest influences. As Bix once said, “One of the things I like about jazz, kid, is I don’t know what’s going to happen next. Do you?”
