Sunday night, the Academy Awards will be given out in Los Angeles as millions watch from their homes.

I think we are going to be surprised when the coveted “Three Billboards” and “The Shape of Water” get La-La-Landed on Sunday night. “Get Out” is the one that really hits this year and deals with all the right issues in all the right ways. Sure, “Billboards” or “Shape” could still win – and hell, they are both incredible films so I’m cool with that – but something tells me we are about to enter a new era where a quasi horror, quasi comedy, quasi race drama that opens in February can win Best Picture.

McDormand gives the performance of her life and despite being an anti-hero with questionable behavior, she’s who we all secretly wish we could be sometimes. All these ladies really rock in their respective roles but there’s an energy about McDormand that is hard to ignore.

As much as I loved Rockwell’s complex and hateful cop Dixon in “Three Billboards,” the performance that really stuck with me was Willem Dafoe’s Bobby in “The Florid Project.” There was something so honest and pure about what he did; it was magical. I know this will go to Sam – and I’m here for it because the man is an icon amongst us 30-something character actors – but there’s still a part of me hoping for a Willem Dafoe upset. Maybe next time, Willem.

I love, love, love Allison Janney; her performances in “American Beauty,” “Juno, “ “Tellulah” and “Drop Dead Gorgeous” are insane. Her work in “I, Tonya” is inspiring and I’m down with her winning. That being said, it’s a damn shame Laurie Metcalf wasn’t shown more love for this tortured role in “Lady Bird.” That scene at the airport?! Come on! I would be so happy to see Aunt Jackie win an Oscar but I can’t see it happening. I can dream a little, right?
