Recycle The Runway With Dress For Success

This “Project Runway” style fashion show — which will be streamed virtually — is a must-see Quad Cities favorite. Before the designers are even chosen, volunteers fill giant bags full of random clothing, shoes, accessories, etc. and number them. Once the designers are selected, each one gets to come pick out a bag with no idea what is inside. The designers then have 6 weeks to craft a “runway-ready” outfit out of whatever they find in the bag!

Comedy At Renwick, Raves At Rozz-Tox, Taoism, Fashion And More In This Week's FUN10

Recycle the Runway 2021 will feature designs by Alexandra Chayer of The Shop Lema, Julia Page & Grace Olsen, Malina Lee of Odd Bettie’s, Becca Nicke & Red Perreze of Abernathy’s, and Kerry Lao & Kelly Lao.

Tickets start at $35, which includes access to the virtual event and an entry to our “Lexus for the Weekend” drawing!

And, you won’t want to miss our spectacular silent auction, which goes live on April 15!

100% of the night’s proceeds will go to providing free job-search assistance, group workshops, career coaching, and professional clothing for women in Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois searching for employment, transitioning into a new industry, working to advance their careers, and interested in career and professional development resources.

Comedy At Renwick, Raves At Rozz-Tox, Taoism, Fashion And More In This Week's FUN10Discuss The ROOTS Of Social Struggle Online

Three sessions of facilitated discussions on the root causes of racism will begin Monday at 7 p.m., hosted online by Metropolitan Community Church of the Quad Cities.

Our goal is to guide groups to intertwine faith and justice for sustainable long-term collective action and accountability. We will be meeting at 7 pm. Each session is 90 minutes long.

The first is focused on relationship building and identity exploration. We ask questions about the parts of our identity that are most salient to us, the experiences that inform how we think about the world and our relationship with privilege and oppression. The second is focused on understanding white supremacy culture and how pervasive it is. We discuss implicit bias and overt/covert characteristics of white supremacy culture that perpetuate racism and oppression.

The final session has a theme of “discipleship costs” and asks what are we willing to sacrifice to create a more just world? We discuss the difference between charity & justice.
Here is a pre-session survey for you to fill out: https://forms.gle/k6dHsMmjn9JsVpCcA

Twenty-two performers (including 13 in the Q-C) are featured in the “New Beginnings” video.

Mockingbird on Main, a planned theater/cabaret space taking shape at 320 Main St., Davenport, is debuting with an online cabaret!

“New Beginnings” – a tantalizing teaser online cabaret – is led by Quad-Cities actor Tristan Tapscott and his girlfriend, Savannah Bay Strandin.

“The Mockingbird is committed to supporting artists and providing a space for them to create,” its social media says. “We will produce projects as creators bring them to us.”

A frequent actor and director in the area, Tapscott co-founded his own company in 2008 — Harrison Hilltop Theatre at 1601 Harrison St., Davenport. In 2011, it moved to the former Green Room — at 1611 2nd Ave., Rock Island – becoming The District Theatre, before moving down the block in August 2014 to the tiny, long and narrow former Grape Life space at 1623 2nd Ave., and ending from 2015 to 2016 in the much larger space at the former Rock Island Argus, 1724 4th Ave., Rock Island.
