The Mississippi Valley Blues Society is back in 2022 and will be showcasing an exciting and diverse lineup of established and emerging Blues-based artists. This year’s Festival is September 16-17th in Davenport’s LeClaire Park!

Bootleg Hill Open Mic Showcases Local Talent

The musical open mic night is back. Happening weekly at Bootleg Hill Honey Meads in downtown Davenport. All are welcome. Hosted by Dan Fennesy and starts at 8 p.m.
Poet KB Coming To Western Illinois University
The Western Illinois University Department of English will host the Fred Ewing Case and Lola Case Writer-in-Residence Thursday, Sept. 15.
This year’s author is KB Brookins, also known as KB, a Black/queer/transmasculine poet, essayist, and cultural worker from Fort Worth, TX.
A craft talk with KB will be held at 3 p.m. in the third floor auditorium of Sherman Hall, followed by a reading and question and answer session at 5 p.m.
KB’s writing has been published in the Academy of American Poets, Huffington Post, American Poetry Review, Teen Vogue, Electric Literature, Okayplayer, Oxford American and elsewhere. They are the author of “How To Identify Yourself with a Wound” (Kallisto Gaia Press, 2022), a chapbook selected by ire’ne laura silva as winner of the Saguaro Poetry Prize. They have earned fellowships from PEN America, Broadway Advocacy Coalition, Lambda Literary and The Watering Hole, among others. Their poem, “Good Grief,” won the Academy of American Poets 2022 Treehouse Climate Action Poem Prize.
The series is sponsored by the WIU Department of English, the Fred Ewing Case and Lola Austin Case Writer-in-Residence program and the WIU College of Arts and Sciences.
The Fred Ewing Case and Lola Austin Case Writer-in-Residence supports bringing national writers of poetry and fiction to WIU each year.
Knitting Workshop Stitching Up Bettendorf
The Creation Studio at the Bettendorf Public Library is meant to be hub for creative exploration. On Saturday, September 17th at 1:00 PM the Bettendorf Public Library will offer community members a hands-on exploration of fiber arts. Creation Studio Workshop: Beginning Knitting is a limited sized class open to teens through adults. Registration is required for this free workshop and can be made at http://events.bettendorflibrary.com/event/6850135 or by calling the Library at 563-344-4175. The workshop will be held in the Creation Studio of the Bettendorf Public Library located at 2950 Learning Campus Dr. in Bettendorf.
Expert knitter Courtney Berry will be the instructor at Creation Studio Workshop: Beginning Knitting. The course will teach participants how to cast on and do the knit stitch. This event is made possible through the support of the Friends of the Bettendorf Public Library.
