Camp Hertko Hollow Closes Through April 19 Due To Coronavirus

Camp Hertko Hollow has closed its offices through at least mid-April due to coronavirus concerns. Camp leadership sent out the following release today:

Dear Friends of Camp Hertko Hollow,

I’m writing to provide you with an update on Camp Hertko Hollow and how we are responding to COVID-19.

Camp Hertko Hollow Closes Through April 19 Due To CoronavirusIn accordance with local, state, and federal recommendations, we will be closing our office beginning Thursday, March 19 through at least April 19th. During this time Deb Holwegner, Camp Director, and I will be working remotely.

More importantly, we have made the very difficult decision to cancel our upcoming Family Weekend and Teen Retreat (April 17-19). Please know that this decision was not made lightly. After garnering feedback from our medical directors we determined that cancelling the weekend is in the best interest of our families and volunteers. As we all know, avoiding groups of people in close contact is the key to preventing spread of COVID-19. These are difficult decisions — both financially and emotionally, but they are for the greater good.

At this point we are still moving forward with the planning for our summer sessions. My hope is that potential stabilization or control may exist within three months.

I will continue to provide updated information about how we are navigating the situation. In the meantime please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Beginning tomorrow Deb and I will be available by cell phone and email (Jessica: 515-443-5085 and j.thornton@camphertkohollow.com; Deb: 515-897-8264 and d.holwegner@camphertkohollow.com).

Sincerely,
Jessica Thornton, Executive Director
