“Already over the next few weeks we will file the results of our trial in five to 11 year olds with regulators across the world and will request approval of the vaccine in this age group, also here in Europe,” Chief Medical Officer Oezlem Tuereci said to Der Spiegel.

BioNTech is expected to file its regulatory dossier for use in 5-11 year olds later this month. It is also expected to seek approval for vaccine use in children from 6 months to 2 years old by the end of the year.
“Things are looking good, everything is going according to plan,” BioNTech Chief Executive Ugur Sahin told Der Spiegel.
While in the U.S., children only as young as 12 are able to get the vaccine, other countries have begun to adopt policies for younger kids to receive it.
Israel has said children as young as 5 can get the Pfizer-BioNTech shot if they suffer from conditions that make them particularly vulnerable to COVID-19.
Chile has approved use of the vaccine for children as young as 6.
China has approved use of the vaccine for children as young as 3.
