Bettendorf Public Library’s Community Connections event will explore Iowa’s rich African American History

Iowa’s rich part in African American history will be explored on April 8th at 7:00 PM at Community Connections – Endless Possibilities: Iowa’s African American History. The online program will feature the African American Museum of Iowa as they highlight historical events Bettendorf Public Library's Community Connections event will explore Iowa’s rich African American Historyand people such as York, the first African American in Iowa and member of the Lewis and Clark expedition to Iowa becoming the first state to officially integrate its public schools. Founded in Cedar Rapids in 1993, the African American Museum of Iowa is a statewide museum dedicated to preserving, exhibiting, and teaching Iowa’s African American history. Community Connections is supported by the Friends of the Bettendorf Public Library and is a monthly event open to all ages. The series focuses on local history, interests, and people through lectures, travelogues, music performances, films, and more.
