The August installment of the Rock Island Artists’ Market is being held this Sunday, August 10 from 12-4 pm in the parking lot of Skeleton Key Art and Antiques at 520 18th Street, Rock Island. The Rock Island Artists’ Market will repeat on the second Sunday of each month, through October.August Artists Market Blooming Sunday At Skeleton Key
Shoppers can expect to find a variety of art, local produce, handcrafted goods and more, all sold by the artists, creators and growers. The August market has over 40 registered vendors, and will feature food by Kavanaugh’s Hilltop Bar and Grill, and live music by Roger Carlson. Additionally at this month’s market, Skeleton Key Art and Antiques will be celebrating their 5th year in business with cupcakes, door prizes, special sales, and more.
Participating vendors pay a yearly registration fee of $50.00 to show their work during the five events comprising the drop-in style market. Registration is open to local artists, craftsmen, and growers.
The Rock Island Artists’ Market was formed through a partnership of the Rock Island Arts Advisory Committee and Skeleton Key. The Rock Island Arts Advisory Committee held public meetings in 2016 to discuss ideas for expanding the arts community in Rock Island. It was decided that an open air artists’ market aimed at connecting artists and patrons topped the list of possible ideas. The Rock Island Artists’ Market joined an existing farmers’ market at Skeleton Key Art and Antiques on Sunday afternoons.
