It’s A Never Ending Story With This Week’s Video You Deserve
Mondays can be rough.
And so, every Monday, we give you a music video. A fun, funny music video. Something that’ll make you smile, make you laugh, make you reminisce, and make you realize that back in the day, music video creators were probably either insane or heavily intoxicated. But were also incredibly entertaining.
We call this feature, The Video You Deserve, and you can find it every Monday on your site for fun, free entertainment and features, QuadCities.com.
Our latest video is an ’80s classic which has been flying back into the public consciousness again ever since it was featured in a pivotal and funny scene from “Stranger Things” season three.
KajaGooGoo were almost destined to be a one-hit-wonder band. They named themselves after the nonsense sounds of a baby, they got their record deal when their lead singer ran into Nick Rhodes of Duran Duran in a nightclub, their image was flashy and colorful with multicolored hair and garb, and their sound was the epitome of what everyone imagines 1983 sounded like. And then, just as quickly as they rose to stardom with a worldwide hit (“Too Shy”), they broke up, splintering into two separate factions, neither of which ever achieved the heights of the original lineup.
That said, their debut album, “White Feathers,” was a terrific example of synth pop of the time, and their lead singer, Christopher Hammill, who went by the name Limahl, became a big star when he went solo — at least for a few years.
During that window, he recorded the title track for a little movie, one which gave him his only huge international hit post-KajaGooGoo.
The Giorgio Moroder produced track was originally recorded as the theme song for the 1984 film ‘The NeverEnding Story’ and later released on the former Kajagoogoo frontman’s debut solo album ‘Don’t Suppose’. The song topped the charts worldwide, including in the U.S. and UK, and became a beloved song for many who were little kids in the ’80s.
A couple decades later, the producers of “Stranger Things” recognized that, and included it in a great scene between two of the characters, which has brought the song back into prominence.
And here it is, your Video You Deserve, “Never Ending Story,” by Limahl…
