Valor & Victory Gardens : WWII in the Hawkeye State

WWII was a global conflict that forever altered society and touched the lives of people around the world, including right here in Iowa. The year 2020 marks the 75th anniversary of the end of WWII. With this exhibit we remember and commemorate that momentous occasion. Through local headlines, personal letters, and historic artifacts, we will tell the Quad Cities’ WWII story.

Join the German American Heritage Center & Museum (712 W 2nd St. Davenport) through Jan 17 for Valor & Victory Gardens: WWII in the Hawkeye State.

This exhibit is supported by the Jewish Federation of the Quad Cities and was co-curated by GAHC Staff and Arthur Pitz, Ph.D.

The exhibit will be open from September 13 – January 17 and is included with general admission:

Performing Arts Signature Series: Ho Etsu Taiko

Join the Quad City Arts this Thursday Nov 5 for their Performing Arts Signature Series: Virtual Season. This week will feature Ho Etsu Taiko – Japanese Drumming.

A collective of musicians with a fresh take on the art of Japanese drumming, Ho Etsu pushes the envelope through collaborations with other taiko groups, musicians, and culturally-focused artists while staying grounded in the rich tradition of kumi-daiko. Their mission is to spread joy through each and every drumbeat by creating music that is true to who they are.

Your ticket includes a digital link of the performance along with curbside take-out service from either Crust in Bettendorf or The Combine in East Moline using a prix-fixe menu created for this event. A link to the menus with instructions for placing orders will be provided in advance. Access to the performance will be provided by 4 p.m. the day of the event and all orders placed in advance will be available at 5:30 p.m. for pickup.

Christmas at the Barn

Get into the holiday spirit with R7 Reclaimed’s Christmas at the Barn event!

R7 Reclaimed (337 Cemetery Lane Grandview) is bringing TWO opening weekends of Christmas at the Barn this year! Come enjoy the weekend magic Nov 6-7 and Nov 13-14 from 4 – 8 p.m.

The two-story reclaimed barn will be overflowing and restocked each weekend and your favorite vendors will be set up under the magic of lights and tents.

The Farmhouse Market will be joining the fun again in the barn. Stone Wall Brick Oven Pizza will be serving it up fresh plus cocoa, kettle, corn, photo ops and all of the things you’ve come to love about the #R7RoadTrip!

Viva La Divas Drag Show

DON’T MISS THE DIVAS!!

The Speakeasy (1818 3rd Ave Rock Island) is thrilled to welcome back the areas premiere drag show VIVA LA DIVAS this Friday Nov 6 from 8 – 10 p.m.

Seating will be limited due to social distancing so order early or you won’t get in! Parties cannot be mixed at tables and reservations can only be made for parties of 4 or 6 people. All attending are required to wear face masks.

November’s special guest performer will be Quad City favorite, Nikki Turner!

Now in its ninth year, Viva La Divas is the longest running drag show in the Quad Cities bringing you some of the United States best performers! Viva La Divas has three multiple title holders and Speakeasy favorites… Dementia Jaide, Jamie Summers and Milange Cavalli! This outstanding show cast is the kind you would expect to see in a large market like Chicago, New York and even Las Vegas! Each month the show will feature a special guest performer as well.

The music you will hear at Viva La Divas ranges from Top 40, Country, Latin, Rock, Hip Hop, Disco and everything in between!

Art-Mageddon at the Market

Art-Mageddon Kicks off the holiday season with an array of local artists and crafters gathered at the Freight House Farmers Market (421 W River Dr. Davenport) this Saturday Nov 7 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Shop local and get started with your holiday gift-giving in an outdoor and safe environment!

From custom wood signs, and wooden toys, woven baskets, and handmade jewelry. Food truck, baked goods, wine, and beer onsite!

Tomfoolery on Tremont: Brent Terhune

Looking for a great time out with a whole bunch of happiness and laughter? Then you need to check out Tomfoolery on Tremont!

Tomfoolery on Tremont features comedy from Brent Terhune this Saturday Nov 7 at The Renwick Mansion (901 Tremont Ave. Davenport) at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

Characters, voices, one liners, and time-tested monologues- Brent Terhune is the embodiment of all these things. Not many comics can pull off Brent’s laid-back style of comedy and still remain just as absurd and funny, but equally relevant and relatable at the same time. Currently, Brent is a writer for the nationally syndicated Bob & Tom Show. He’s been featured on Fox’s “Laughs” and his debut comedy album went all the way to #1 on the iTunes charts. He’s also appeared at the Limestone Comedy Festival and gets regular play on SiriusXM.

Joy Avenue Media and the River Music Experience presents J.A.M. SESSIONS – local bands, live in real time from the JAM studio.

J.A.M. Sessions will feature Byron “BK” Davis this Saturday Nov 7 at 7 p.m.

River Music Experience has partnered with Joy Avenue Media to present high-quality, free livestreams of the best QC bands, providing safe live music to our community. Tips and donations are encouraged to the band help cover production costs.

The QC During WWII

Join the German American Heritage Center & Museum online this Sunday Nov 8 at 2 p..m for “The QC During WWII”, a lecture by Dr. Art Pitz.

The Tri-Cities became the Quad Cities and with that, all experienced a total war. Come and share that experience.

This presentation will be presented live over Zoom.

This event is free to the public. Donations are greatly appreciated.
