Western Illinois University Hosting Panel Discussion about Ukrainian Crisis March 24

Western Illinois University will host a faculty panel discussion to provide historical, geopolitical and religious context for the ongoing situation in Ukraine from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 24 in the University Union’s Sandburg Theater.

WIU Department of History Interim Chair Tim Roberts will moderate three brief presentations, followed by a discussion and question and answer session.

Panelists include:

Liberal Arts and Sciences Coordinator and Religious Studies Professor Betsy Perabo, who has taught at WIU since 2005. Her research focuses on religion and war and she is the author of “Russian Orthodoxy and the Russo-Japanese War” (Bloomsbury, 2017).

History Professor Richard Filipink, who has taught at WIU since 2006. His research focus is Cold War American political and diplomatic history. He is the author of “Dwight Eisenhower and American Foreign Policy During the 1960s” (Lexington, 2016).

Political Science Associate Professor Gregory Baldi, who teaches courses on European and comparative politics. His work has been published in Western European Politics and the British Journal of Politics and International Relations and he is the author of “Ideas, Institutions, and the Politics of Schools in Postwar Britain and Germany” (Palgrave, 2022).
